Meet the team
Laurie Dummett
CEO
I have been working across operations and maintenance for over 35 years including all aspects of Asset Management, Reliability, Maintenance and Turnarounds. I started with ICI PLC (at the time, the world’s largest chemicals company), joined ABB consulting 10 years later and then went on to found Carcharodon in 2001. I have worked in 37 countries, managed award-winning consulting assignments and developed one of the world’s leading training portfolios.
I started Carcharodon with the ambition of creating the best consultancy on the market and this remains my obsession. This is not about awards and recognition for us it’s about what we help our clients achieve and what we are like to work with. My role as CEO is to make sure we remain at the leading edge of best practice and always act in the best interests of our clients. And of course, I still enjoy rolling my sleeves up and getting involved in consulting projects and delivering training.

I am passionate about helping people improve, solving problems, and simplifying complex ideas to assist decision-making. What truly brings me joy, however, is building connections with others and supporting them in achieving their goals. I am dedicated to helping individuals and teams excel as they overcome challenges and realise their full potential.

Alex Curry
Principal Consultant
In 1990, I graduated as a Mechanical Engineer and joined BP’s petrochemicals division. Over 27 years, I led asset maintenance, turnarounds, operations, and major projects. I also completed the BP Operational Excellence course at MIT. For ten of those years, I drove business improvements and supported M&A activities in roles as a change leader. In 2018, I moved to Bilfinger UK, leading their onshore services division for seven years, finishing as Vice President, managing 5,000 employees and a £200m turnover. It is this combination of technical expertise, operational excellence, and leadership as both client and contractor, that I bring to our Carcharodon customers.
Being Principal Consultant in Carcharodon; the engineer in me loves the investigation, analysis, and critical thinking required by the role, but the passion comes from helping people succeed and grow. A Business’s problems can be seen through their team’s frustrations. My role is to help implement unique solutions that transform performance, removing those frustrations and unleashing potential, leaving a lasting positive impact on both the business and individuals.

I began my career as a nurse, where I had the privilege of caring for others and developed valuable skills in communication, organisation and teamwork. In 2021, I joined Carcharodon as Office Manager, a role that combines all these skills—and more—into a varied and fulfilling role.
As Office Manager, my role is to ensure the office runs smoothly. Beyond that, I am committed to promoting and sustaining the company culture and values we are so proud of.
